States of Matter

SOLID: particles are packed tight. Solids keep their shape. Ice, rock, wood are solids.

LIQUID: particles are close but can move. Liquids take the shape of their cup. Water, milk, oil.

GAS: particles fly around freely. Gases fill any space. Air, steam, oxygen.

Heat changes matter. Ice (solid) melts to water (liquid). Water boils to steam (gas).
