1Mammals

Mammals have fur or hair, are warm-blooded, and feed their babies milk. Dogs, cats, elephants, whales, and humans are all mammals!

Most mammals give birth to live babies (not eggs). The only exceptions are the platypus and echidna — they are mammals that lay eggs!

2Birds

Birds have feathers, wings, a beak, and lay eggs. Most birds can fly, but some cannot — like penguins and ostriches.

Feathers are amazing! They keep birds warm, help them fly, and can be colorful to attract mates. Birds are the only animals with feathers.

3Fish, Reptiles, and Amphibians

Fish live in water and have gills to breathe. They have scales and fins. Sharks, goldfish, and tuna are all fish.

Reptiles have dry, scaly skin and lay eggs on land. Snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodiles are reptiles. Amphibians live both in water and on land — frogs and salamanders are amphibians.
