Shapes Around Us
Circles, squares, triangles, rectangles — shapes are hiding everywhere in the world.
1The Circle
A circle is perfectly round. It has no corners and no straight edges. The sun is a circle. A plate is a circle. The wheel on your bike is a circle.
Try drawing a circle in the air with your finger. Notice how your finger goes round and round without stopping or making a corner.
2The Square
A square has four sides, all the same length, and four corners. Each corner is a perfect right angle — like the corner of a book.
Look around: window panes, floor tiles, and picture frames are often squares. Squares are tidy and balanced.
3The Triangle
A triangle has three sides and three corners. It can point up, point down, or even lie on its side. Triangles are strong shapes — engineers use them in bridges!
A slice of pizza is a triangle. The roof of a house is often a triangle. Can you spot three triangles around you right now?
4The Rectangle
A rectangle has four sides too, but only the opposite sides are the same length. It looks like a stretched square.
Doors, books, and your phone screen are rectangles. Rectangles are everywhere because they fit so well in our hands and homes.
