The 10×10 multiplication grid
A multiplication table shows every product of two numbers from 1 to 10. Each row is a "times" family: the 2 row, the 5 row, the 10 row. Read across to multiply by the row number.
Click any cell to hear the answer. Hover to see the row and column that multiply together. Notice the patterns: the 2 row always ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8. The 5 row ends in 0 or 5. The 10 row always ends in 0.
Patterns to discover
The diagonal from top-left to bottom-right shows square numbers: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100. A square number is a number times itself.
Multiplication is commutative: 3 × 4 = 4 × 3 = 12. Look at the grid — the top-right triangle mirrors the bottom-left triangle. Half the table is repeated!
Why this matters
Multiplication is the foundation of math you'll use every day: calculating prices, measuring recipes, splitting things fairly. Once you know your times tables, you can solve problems in seconds that would take minutes to count out.
Engineers use multiplication to calculate areas and forces. Cooks use it to scale recipes. Bankers use it to compute interest. Game makers use it for scoring. Even music uses multiplication — every rhythm is a multiplication of beats!
