1Coins

Coins are small metal money. In Indonesia, we have coins worth 100, 200, 500, and 1000 rupiah. In the US, coins are worth 1 cent (penny), 5 cents (nickel), 10 cents (dime), and 25 cents (quarter).

Each coin has a different size and color. Learning to recognize them helps you pay for things yourself. Ask a grown-up to show you real coins.

2Bills

Bills are paper money, used for bigger amounts. In Indonesia: 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000 rupiah. In the US: $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100.

Bills have pictures of important people or places. They also have special numbers in the corners so you know how much they are worth.

3Counting Money

To count money, start with the biggest value and add smaller ones. Example: one 10,000 + one 5,000 + two 1,000 = 17,000. Practice with real or pretend money.

Making change means figuring out how much money to give back. If something costs 7,000 and you pay 10,000, you get 3,000 back. Try it!
