1What Is a Sentence?

A sentence is a complete thought. It tells us who did what. "The cat sleeps." That is a sentence — it has a who (the cat) and a what (sleeps).

Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period (.). The period says "stop — the thought is complete."

2Subject and Verb

The subject is who or what the sentence is about. The verb is the action. "The dog runs." Subject: the dog. Verb: runs.

Try making your own: think of an animal (subject), then think of an action (verb). "The bird sings." "The fish swims." "The rabbit hops."

3Adding More Details

You can add more words to make sentences richer. "The dog runs." → "The big dog runs fast." → "The big brown dog runs fast in the park."

Each word you add paints a clearer picture in the reader's mind. But remember — every sentence still needs a subject and a verb to be complete!
